Switching animator controller to change costumes?

Switching animator controller to change costumes?
I’m thinking about switching animator controllers to change my character’s costumes. Is this a logical idea? That way I could have several controllers for the same character, and then just change the costume using an animation controller change out. Does that make sense? Any advice before I go down this route?
